Situation over at Venezuela embassy in Brazil
(13 Nov 2019) Police in Brazil's capital peacefully escorted supporters of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido away from the country's embassy building in Brasilia on Wednesday. Venezuela's current Charge d'Affairs spoke to media outside the embassy compound in the Brazilian capital, saying Guaido supporters had been allowed to go "free" and that their entry into the building had been "a violation of the Venezuelan territory in Brazil". Nobody was reported injured and no arrests were made. Earlier on Wednesday, the group of people backing Guaido occupied the building, however, there were conflicting reports about whether the group entered by force. An official representing President Nicolas Maduro's government, speaking on condition of anonymity, said a group of 20 persons forced their way inside the embassy. In a statement Guaido's representative to Brazil said embassy employees opened the gates to let opposition sympathizers in. Brazil and more than 50 other nations recognize Guaido as Venezuela's legitimate president. The incident happened on the first day of the Brazil-hosted summit for BRICS nations, which also include Russia, India, China and South Africa.
